MaryAnn Romski

MaryAnn Romski is a Regents Professor in the Department of Communication at Georgia State University, with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychology and Communication Sciences and Disorders. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas (1981) and is an ASHA-certified, Georgia-licensed speech-language pathologist.

Her research focuses on developmental disabilities, augmentative communication, and early language intervention. She investigates how children with severe communication disorders develop language skills, particularly through interventions using augmented means like technology and sign language. Current projects include a Fogarty/NIDCD-funded initiative in northern South Africa developing an APP for caregivers to enhance children’s communication, and an early language database analyzing parent-implemented interventions for toddlers with developmental delays.

As Director of the Center for Atypical Development and Learning (CRADL), she advances interdisciplinary research on developmental disabilities. Collaborations extend to institutions in South Africa and Hong Kong. She also serves on the University Senate, focusing on academic governance.
