Mary Tresa Zanda, PhD, is an Associate Research Scientist in the Departments of Neuroscience and Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. She holds primary appointments in both departments and is affiliated with the Addy Lab. Her research focuses on behavioral health, substance use, and addiction, with an emphasis on neuroinflammation, psilocybin, heroin, and animal models to study addiction mechanisms.
Zanda earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Cagliari (2018), an MS in Neuropsychobiology (2012), and a BS in Experimental Biology (2010). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Temple University (2023). Her work explores the intersection of neuropharmacology, addiction neuroscience, and translational psychiatry. She has contributed to studies on novel psychoactive substances, neuroinflammatory pathways, and behavioral paradigms in drug research.
Her research interests include drug-seeking behavior, the effects of psilocybin on heroin relapse, and the role of microRNAs in addiction. She has collaborated with researchers such as Gabriele Floris and Stephen Daws on projects investigating heroin’s molecular and behavioral impacts. Zanda’s work has implications for understanding substance use disorders and developing therapeutic interventions.
