Her research integrates environmental and physiological factors influencing vertebrate reproduction, with a focus on amphibians, reptiles, and bats.
Her research interests include:
- Neuroendocrinology
- Reproductive and Stress Biology
- Ecotoxicology
- Herpetology
- Ecological Immunology
- Bat Behavioral Ecology
Her recent publications span topics such as hormonal control of reproduction, environmental endocrine disruption, stress physiology in amphibians, and immunological responses in bats. These works reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach combining field and laboratory methodologies, with applications in conservation and wildlife health.
Mary T. Mendonca actively mentors graduate students and integrates numerous undergraduates into her research program, emphasizing professional development and independent inquiry. She has advised students on projects related to chytridiomycosis, bat immunology, amphibian ecology, and avian endocrinology.
She teaches courses including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Hormones and Behavior, and Vertebrate Reproductive Biology at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
