Christopher Leary is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi, leading the Leary Behavioral and Neuroendocrinology Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in Zoology (2005, University of Oklahoma) and teaches as a Faculty Instructor. His research focuses on neural and endocrine systems underlying animal communication and behavior, particularly in anuran amphibians. He investigates how sexual signals are processed in the central nervous system, hormonal influences on behavior, and the interplay between signal production, endocrine physiology, and reproductive ecology.
Key research techniques include behavioral analysis, acoustic manipulation, hormone assays, and electrophysiology. Current projects examine stress hormone effects on mating tactics and mate choice in green treefrogs. Past work includes studies on auditory processing mechanisms and conservation biology of endangered turtles. Leary has advised multiple graduate and undergraduate students, with publications in journals like Animal Behaviour, Hormones and Behavior, and Journal of Comparative Physiology. His lab actively recruits students for interdisciplinary studies in amphibian behavior and endocrinology.
