She holds dual summer affiliations with the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Her education includes a B.A. in Classics from the University of Minnesota (summa cum laude) and an M.A./Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology and Greek from Bryn Mawr College, supplemented by extensive fieldwork at the American School of Classical Studies.
Her research focuses on Greek and Roman sculpture, with specialization in Corinthian antiquities, Hellenistic art, and theater reconstructions. She investigates cultural identity through sculptural programs, regional workshops, and religious iconography, prominently featuring the Sanctuary of Poseidon and Hadrianic Theater at Corinth.
Sturgeon’s publications (2000–2006) demonstrate sustained emphasis on Roman provincial sculpture, theater dedications, and artifact analysis. Her work integrates epigraphic evidence, stylistic studies, and archaeological context to explore themes of cultural exchange and imperial self-representation.
