Alessandro Pierattini is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame. His expertise spans architectural history, classical antiquity, and historic preservation. He holds a Ph.D. from La Sapienza University, Rome, with a specialization in Greek and Roman architectural studies. His research focuses on formal and technical aspects of Greek temple architecture, early stone temple development, and Pompeian architectural preservation. Pierattini has conducted fieldwork at Isthmia, Corinth, Djemila (Algeria), and Pompeii, collaborating with institutions like the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
His scholarly contributions include studies on Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Nubian architecture, as well as Renaissance treatises by Alberti and Serlio. He has presented at global venues such as Cambridge University and the University of Miami. Pierattini’s work bridges archaeological practice with theoretical analysis, emphasizing architectural evolution and preservation methodologies across ancient cultures.
