Mary Stevenson Norman is an Associate Professor of Practice and Assistant Dean of Graduate Affairs at Texas Tech University’s College of Media & Communication. She coordinates the College’s MA programs in Mass Communication and Strategic Communication & Innovation. Her roles include leadership in academic administration and teaching strategic communication courses. Norman holds a B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies from Baylor University and a Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Texas Tech University (2018).
Her research focuses on children’s media consumption, gender representation, and the societal impacts of media content. Notable studies include analyzing TV advertising’s effects on parenting decisions and exploring media portrayals of divorce among college students. She has taught courses in PR, advertising, media theory, and online pedagogy.
Norman’s awards include the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Graduate Fellowship and Helen DeVitt-Jones Fellowship. Her teaching expertise spans research methods, strategic communication planning, and media management. Before academia, she was a Baylor lecturer and entrepreneur running a gift store.
