Mary Kay Owens

Mary Kay Owens is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy. She also leads Intelligent Health and SEC Consultants as President and CEO, and directs the PAVE Florida Partnership, focusing on innovative payment and care delivery models for Medicaid, Medicare, and employers.

Education:

• Pharmacy degree from Auburn University
• Executive Management in Health Care from the University of Southern California

Her research and professional work centers on patient-centered care integration and coordination, transitions of care models, multidisciplinary team care, appropriate medication use, patient safety, quality assessment, system-wide cost efficiencies, and evidence-based evaluations. She is a licensed consultant pharmacist in Florida and holds pharmacy licenses in Florida and Alabama.

With over 30 years of experience, Owens has provided expertise to government agencies, health plans, academic institutions, and healthcare collaboratives. Her contributions span Medicaid/Medicare/commercial program operations, regulatory policy, medication use, utilization management, auditing methods, and fraud detection. She has served on national and state Medicaid advisory boards and is immediate past President of the National Alliance for Integrated Medication Management (AIMM).

Mary Kay presents at regional, state, and national forums on topics such as advanced analytics for care management, relationships between medication adherence and healthcare costs, and development of integrated care models. Her prior roles include Director of the Florida Medicaid Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Program and Chair of the National Medicaid DUR Steering Committee.
