Mary Hunter is Associate Professor of Art History at McGill University, with research expertise in 19th-century French art and visual culture. She holds an affiliate appointment in Social Studies of Medicine and has served as Interim Dean of Arts and Department Chair.
Her scholarship examines intersections of art and medicine, theories of time, and identity formation through works by artists including Degas, Morisot, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Her current SSHRC-funded project analyzes representations of waiting in Impressionist-era France.
Dr. Hunter is curating the exhibition Tissot, Women and Time (AG Toronto, 2024-25), exploring temporal experiences of modern womanhood through James Tissot's works.
