Mary Hirschfeld is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame, within the College of Arts and Letters. Her work bridges theology and economics through the lens of St. Thomas Aquinas' thought. She holds a Ph.D. in Moral Theology from Notre Dame (2013) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University (1989). Her research focuses on economic inequality, financial ethics, and the intersection of theology with social science approaches to the common good.
Key publications include Aquinas and the Market: Toward a Humane Economy (2018) and articles exploring theological perspectives on financial crises and business ethics. Her work critiques technocratic paradigms in economics and advocates for morally grounded economic frameworks.
