Dr Mary-Claire Travers is a Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London (KCL), based in the School of Education, Communication & Society within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. She holds an MA and PhD from KCL, following a Bachelor of Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies, alongside an MA in Education from an Australian institution. Her career spans teaching in the UK and Australia, followed by roles in higher education at the IOE/UCL and KCL.
Her research focuses on social justice, White working-class education, and student grouping dynamics. She authored a landmark book on success factors for working-class boys in education and frequently lectures on underprivileged children’s academic achievement. She mentors teachers in low socio-economic areas with low university participation rates.
Travers is affiliated with the interdisciplinary Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), which analyzes social change and justice in education to influence policy and activism. Her work emphasizes education’s transformative role globally.
