Mary Ben Bonham is a Professor at Miami University's Department of Architecture and Interior Design, affiliated with the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. She holds roles including Interior Design Program Coordinator (2017–present) and Affiliate Faculty in the IES. She earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on facades, sustainable design, lighting systems, and adaptive reuse, emphasizing climate-responsive technologies and building-nature integration. Bonham has received grants and awards, including a $50,000 Nuckolls Fund grant for lighting education initiatives and the 2013 Interior Design Educators Council Media Award. She has held teaching roles from Assistant to Professor at Miami University since 2007, and prior to that, adjunct roles at institutions like the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Professional memberships include leadership in the Illuminating Engineering Society and Facade Tectonics Institute, where she contributed to IoT lighting standards. Her work bridges academic research, industry practice, and environmental sustainability.
Her professional experience spans over two decades, including roles at firms like Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates and Modigliani Noyes Architects, focusing on architectural design and building systems. Key publications include her 2020 book *Bioclimatic Double-Skin Façades* and articles on biofacades and postwar facade systems.
