Mary Banas

Mary Banas is a Part-time Lecturer in the Graphic Arts area at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University. She specializes in graphic design, collaborative art practices, and visual communication, with a focus on interdisciplinary projects and education.

Her creative practice, YES IS MORE, includes research, teaching, and design. She collaborates with artist Breanne Trammell as BMTMB, exhibiting in venues such as Life is a Highway (2019) and For Freedoms: Art as Political Resistance (2018). Her design work extends to corporate and artistic clients like ATO Records, Dolby Labs, and Pinterest, including Grammy-nominated album packaging for Mitski’s Be the Cowboy (2018).

Banas has taught since 2009 at institutions including California College of the Arts (MFA/BFA programs), University of Connecticut (Visiting Assistant Professor), Rhode Island School of Design, and others. She leads design workshops and serves as a visiting critic at schools like Pratt Institute and Boston University. At SMFA, she advises MFA thesis students.

Her work is featured in collections like Counterproof Press and the Letterform Archive, and she has contributed writings to C-Magazine and AIGA Eye on Design.
