Mary A. Carney is the Senior Director of Faculty and Leadership Development at the University of Georgia (UGA) and holds a courtesy faculty appointment in the Department of English. Her roles include strategic leadership for university-wide professional development initiatives, such as the Advanced Leader Program, the Faculty Leader Series, and the redesign of New Faculty Orientation. She focuses on faculty success, leadership skills, mentoring, and engagement. Carney has extensive experience in academic leadership, including her prior position as Professor of English and Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership at the University of North Georgia. She co-founded the USG Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Fellows program and chaired the USG Consortium for Teaching and Learning. Her scholarly interests span 20th-century American literature, educational development, and SoTL. Carney holds a Ph.D. in English from UGA and completed the Professional Coaching Program at Rice University, earning an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential.
