Marwan Younis is a Professor of Spaceborne Radar Systems at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Head of the SAR Techniques Group at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). He holds a B.Sc. from the University of Baghdad (1992), M.Sc. (1997), and Ph.D. (2004) from the University of Karlsruhe. His research focuses on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems, MIMO SAR, digital beamforming, and spaceborne radar technology. He has authored/co-authored over 150 conference papers and 30 reviewed articles, with contributions to missions like TanDEM-X and Tandem-L. Younis is an active IEEE member, serving as Director of Corporate Relations for GRSS and co-chairing technical committees.
His work includes pioneering advancements in SAR calibration, multi-channel systems, and interferometric radar missions. Notable achievements include the Hermann-Billing Award (2005) for his Ph.D. thesis. Teaching involves advanced radio communications and supervision at DLR's Microwaves and Radar Institute. Key projects involve Ka-band radar for cold environments and next-generation Copernicus Sentinel-1 missions.
