Dr Marvyn Boatswain is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Birmingham Dubai, where he joined in February 2024. He previously served as an Associate Professor of Marketing at Kingston University London, holding leadership roles including School Head of Department and Programme Director for Marketing & Communication degrees.

His research focuses on brand positioning, regulatory focus and mode, place branding, and the influence of context and decoy effects on consumer and organizational decision-making. He is also deeply engaged in the scholarship of learning and teaching, aiming to enhance pedagogical practices in marketing education.
His recent publications explore regulatory focus orientation in B2B marketing and decision-making behaviors, reflecting a strong trend in psychological and cognitive aspects of marketing strategy. These works appear in respected journals such as the Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing and the Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing.

Marvyn supervises postgraduate students in areas including brand positioning, regulatory focus, context effects, and place branding. He has received support from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for his doctoral research and continues to engage in consultancy across retail and FMCG sectors. His interdisciplinary background spans the Caribbean, US, UK, and UAE, enriching both his academic and practical perspectives.
He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), American Marketing Association (AMA), Academy of Marketing Science (AMS), Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE), and Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE).
