معرفی
Martyn Roberts is a Lecturer in Biological Oceanography at the School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University. His research focuses on marine optics, physical oceanography, and their impacts on marine ecosystems, including Arctic and deep-sea environments. He holds a PhD in Physical Oceanography (2015) and a BSc in Ocean Science (2010) from Bangor University, alongside a physics degree from the University of Durham (2008).
Research Interests: Roberts investigates the interplay between physical ocean processes and marine ecology, particularly in Arctic and deep-sea systems. Key themes include tidal modulation of seabed light, deep-sea sponge biogeography, and climate change impacts on marine ecosystems. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and climate action.
Grants & Projects:
- PI of 'Researcher like me...' grant (£2000) promoting diversity in research (2024)
- Co-PI of ReAct grant (£19k) exploring climate change activism (2023)
- Contributed to EQUINOR project (NOK 1M) studying hydrothermal vents (2019)
Teaching & Supervision: Roberts co-authored the textbook Tides: A Very Short Introduction (2019) and supervised over a dozen students, including MSc and PhD candidates researching Arctic sponge grounds, deep-sea ecology, and seabird behavior.
Lab Affiliations: His work involves collaborations with institutions like the University of Bergen (Norway), contributing to projects such as SponGES (2016–2020) and ArctiCONNECT (2021–2023).
