Martyn Pickersgill is a Professor in the Edinburgh Medical School at the University of Edinburgh, holding a Personal Chair in the Sociology of Science and Medicine. He is Co-Director of the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society and leads a Wellcome Trust PhD Programme on 'One Health Animal Models of Disease: Science, Ethics and Society.'
Research Interests: Martyn's work focuses on the social, legal, and ethical dimensions of biomedicine, including sociologies of (epi)genetics, neuroscience, and mental health. His research integrates interdisciplinary approaches across social sciences and biomedical domains.
Recent Article Trends: His latest publications explore topics such as the sociopolitical dynamics of biomedical research, mental health policy in Scotland, neurodegenerative disease frameworks, and the impact of data-driven neurotechnologies on education and cognition.

Advising & Grants: Martyn has co-founded research centers, raised over £17m (US$21m) in external funding, and contributed to national/international policy forums, including the Scottish Science Advisory Council and WHO.
Labs & Teams: He is Co-Director of the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society and part of the Senior Leadership Team for the University of Edinburgh's Usher Institute, which includes over 400 staff and students.
