Chase Ledin

Chase Ledin serves as Lecturer in Social Science and Medicine at the University of Edinburgh's Usher Institute within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. His interdisciplinary work bridges public health, social science, and medical humanities, with particular focus on queer health experiences and biomedical innovation.

His educational background includes a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2022), MA from King's College London (2016), and BA from The Ohio State University (2014). He recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (2024-2025).

Ledin's research centers on three interconnected domains: (1) queer health experiences including HIV/STI prevention and sexual health activism; (2) intersections of sexual health with Science and Technology Studies; and (3) antimicrobial resistance in relation to sexual health. He employs creative qualitative methodologies including community workshops, archival research, and arts-based engagement.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trajectory in critical analysis of HIV elimination policies, queer medical humanities, and innovative STI prevention strategies like DoxyPEP. His work consistently examines sociotechnical dimensions of health interventions within Scottish and European contexts.

Ledin actively supervises undergraduate and master's students while contributing to multiple degree programs including MBChB, MPH, and Bioethics. His current research portfolio includes six active projects addressing DoxyPEP implementation, queer STS, and imagined futures of sexual health, totaling over £500,000 in funding. He co-chairs Scotland's Interdisciplinary Research in Sexual Health Network and contributes to community engagement through public lectures and arts collaborations.

His laboratory work centers on the Centre for Biomedicine, Self & Society, where he develops participatory methodologies connecting academic research with public health outreach and community activism through initiatives like the Sexual Health Futures project.
