Marty Kuhlman serves as the Jenny Lind Porter Professor of History in the Department of History at West Texas A&M University's Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate and graduate courses in United States history, with specialized expertise in the Old South, Civil War and Reconstruction, Civil Rights Movements, and post-1945 America.
Dr. Kuhlman earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (1983) and Bachelor of Arts in History (1984) from West Texas State University, followed by a Master of Arts in History (1986) from the same institution, and completed his Doctor of Philosophy at Texas Tech University in 1994.
His research centers on African American history in Texas, particularly the Civil Rights Movement, Reconstruction era, and Civil War. Additional interests include 20th-century U.S. history and Texas regional history. Current projects include authoring the official history of West Texas A&M University for its centennial celebration and scholarly investigations into land promotion in the Texas Panhandle.
