Dr. Martine Knoop is a Professor and Head of the Daylight and Indoor Lighting Research Team at TU Berlin's Institute of Energy and Automation Technology (Faculty IV). She also serves as Deputy Head of the Lighting Technology Department and coordinates academic teaching programs. Her work focuses on daylight quality assessment, non-visual light effects, and spectral daylight modeling. She holds a Master's and PhD from TU Delft (Netherlands), specializing in Building Physics and Lighting Technology.
- Current Position: TU Berlin (since 2012)
- Previous Roles: Senior Lighting Specialist at Philips (2005-2012), Guest Professor at TU Eindhoven (2005-2008)
- Key Research: Urban daylight deprivation impacts, spectral sky databases, light directionality studies
Her research bridges architectural lighting, environmental optics, and human health. Recent projects include the DFG-funded 'Daylight Dynamics and Depression' initiative exploring virtual reality daylight simulations for urban mental health. She leads the CIE TC 3-60 committee on daylight spectral properties and co-developed the SKYSPECTRA global spectral dataset.
Key publications focus on daylight modeling methodologies, light directionality effects, and spectral standardization. She has authored 2 patents related to lighting systems and control methods.
