Martina Norling is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Preschool Education at the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Örebro University. She holds a PhD in Didactics, a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, and a master's degree in Special Education. Her primary teaching focus includes subject didactics with an emphasis on early childhood literacy, multilingualism, and outdoor pedagogy in preschool settings.
Research Interests: Dr. Norling’s research explores language development, multilingualism, literacy practices in preschool environments, outdoor pedagogy, and transitions between educational settings. Her work emphasizes the 'social language environment' concept, which examines how preschool contexts shape children’s emergent literacy processes. Current projects include the Swedish Research Council-funded study on reading aloud in preschool and collaborations in the Nordic Early Literacy Education (NELE) group.
Teaching and Supervision: She teaches courses on literacy, multilingualism, and early childhood development. She supervises student theses and assists in doctoral supervision. As Program Coordinator for Örebro University’s Early Years Education Programme, she oversees curriculum development.
Collaborations: Member of the Nordic Early Literacy Education (NELE) research group and the National Literacy Network. She convenes the international Multilingual Childhoods SIG and serves as the World Forum Representative for Sweden.
