Martina Gaspari is an Assistant Professor in the Biological Sciences Department at Utah Tech University, where she has served since 2014. Her research centers on RNA biology, specifically investigating physical and functional interactions between human non-coding RNAs including telomerase RNA (hTR) and mitochondrial RNA-processing ribonuclease (hMRP).
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden (2006)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY
- Postdoctoral Research Associate, Stowers Institute for Medical Research, Kansas City, MO
Dr. Gaspari's research spans RNA Biology, Molecular Biology, and Genetics, with emphasis on how mutations in hTR and hMRP cause dyskeratosis congenita (DKC) and cartilage hair hypoplasia (CHH). She actively mentors students and champions women in science, particularly encouraging female students to pursue STEM careers. Her teaching portfolio includes General Biology, Principles of Biology I, Eukaryotic Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and Senior Seminar courses.
Dr. Gaspari maintains strong connections to her Italian heritage and enjoys running, cooking, and family time outside her academic work.
