Martin Yvon Desrosiers is a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal, specializing in ENT and head and neck surgery at CHUM (Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal). As an MD and FRCSC (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada), he directs his research efforts through the 'Tissue insult, infection, immunity and inflammation' axis. Dr. Desrosiers maintains an active clinical practice alongside his academic responsibilities, with contact information including email martin-yvon.desrosiers.chum@ssss.gouv.qc.ca and phone number 514 890-8000 ext. 14170.
Dr. Desrosiers' research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of development and persistence of chronic rhinosinusitis. His work encompasses studying the bacterial environment of the sinuses, genetic factors that confer susceptibility to chronic rhinosinusitis, molecular mechanisms of the disease, and epithelial responses to bacteria and pro-inflammatory cytokines. A significant aspect of his research involves the development of probiotic bacteria as therapy for chronic rhinosinusitis and identifying potential pharmacological targets to better treat patients refractory to medical and surgical treatments. He actively evaluates new treatments through participation in clinical trials on chronic rhinosinusitis.
Analysis of Dr. Desrosiers' recent publications reveals a strong focus on biologic therapies for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). His research spans international consensus statements, clinical trials of biologic agents including dupilumab, mepolizumab, benralizumab, and tezepelumab, and investigations into disease burden. His work demonstrates a progression from understanding fundamental disease mechanisms toward developing and evaluating targeted biologic treatments, with increasing emphasis on quality of life outcomes and practical clinical applications.
Throughout his career, Dr. Desrosiers has contributed to numerous international consensus statements and clinical guidelines, establishing himself as a key opinion leader in the field of rhinology. His collaborations span multiple continents, reflecting the global recognition of his expertise in chronic rhinosinusitis management.
Dr. Desrosiers actively participates in clinical trials evaluating novel treatments for chronic rhinosinusitis, working with both academic institutions and pharmaceutical partners. His research program receives support from various funding sources that enable his investigations into the pathophysiology and treatment of chronic inflammatory sinus conditions. He serves as a mentor to junior researchers and clinicians interested in advancing the field of rhinology through evidence-based approaches.
As part of the ENT department at CHUM, Dr. Desrosiers contributes to a multidisciplinary team that integrates clinical care, research, and education. His work bridges the gap between basic science discoveries and clinical applications, with a particular focus on translating research findings into improved patient outcomes for those suffering from chronic sinus conditions.
