Martin Wilkins

Martin Wilkins is a physician-scientist and Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Imperial College London. He currently serves as Director of the British Heart Foundation Imperial College Centre of Research Excellence and Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Imperial Clinical Research Facility at Hammersmith Hospital. His academic career spans multiple leadership roles including Vice Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London.

His research focuses on cardiovascular diseases, particularly pulmonary hypertension, where he pioneered bench-to-bedside studies over 25 years. His work has led to the development of novel drug classes like phosphodiesterase inhibitors and soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators, while recent investigations explore iron/zinc roles in pulmonary vascular homeostasis using genetics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
