Martin Viklund is a Professor at the Division for Biophysics (SciLifeLab), Department of Applied Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He leads the Wiklund Lab, focusing on acoustofluidics—the application of ultrasound in lab-on-a-chip devices for cell manipulation and 3D tissue engineering. His research includes acoustic trapping, acoustophoresis, and microfluidic systems for biomedical applications.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Engineering Physics, Lund Institute of Technology (1993–1998)
- PhD in Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (1999–2004)
- Postdoc at Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Berlin (2004–2005)
Research Interests: Acoustofluidics, 3D cell culture, micro-tissue engineering, ultrasound-based cell manipulation, and biomedical device development. His work emphasizes non-invasive methods for cell handling and tumor modeling.
Awards:
- 2008: Göran Gustavsson Foundation Young Researcher Award
- 2014: KTH Teacher of the Year
- 2017: STINT Fellow
Grants & Administration:
- Program Director for Engineering Physics at KTH (2017–present)
- Head of the Division for Biophysics (2024–present)
- Recipient of grants from the Swedish Research Council, Wallenberg Foundation, and others totaling over 40 million SEK.
Labs & Teams: The Wiklund Lab at SciLifeLab, Gamma-3, specializes in acoustic tools for biomedical research. Collaborations include institutions in Japan, the U.S., and Europe.
