Martin Persson is a Professor in Health Science at Kristianstad University’s Faculty of Health Science, leading the Department of Nursing and Integrated Health Sciences. He coordinates the Patient Reported Outcomes - Clinical Assessment Research and Education (PROCARE) group and contributes to Centrum för Mat Hälsa och Handel (FOHRK). Additionally, he served as Visiting Professor at the University of the West of England (2020–2023).

Martin’s research focuses on body image dissatisfaction caused by disfigurement or societal beauty ideals, impacting mental and physical health. He leads European projects to train healthcare professionals in addressing psychosocial challenges, with a focus on cleft lip/palate patients, health equity, and inclusion in vocational education. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Recent projects include the NIHR-funded Cleft@18-20 program examining transition to adult care for cleft patients and Erasmus+ initiatives like Digitisation and EDI to enhance psychosocial training. He also advises Smile Train’s India cleft care project.
