Martin O'Connor is an Associate Professor in the Fire Science and Emergency Management Department at the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, University of New Haven. He serves as campus chaplain, faculty advisor to the President’s Public Service Fellowship, and as a faculty member on the university’s committee on community service.

Mr. O’Connor’s research interests focus on Criminal Justice Ethics and Historical Issues in Criminal Justice. As a former Chief of the New Haven Fire Department with 30 years of service, he brings practical expertise to his academic work. In media appearances, he has provided expert commentary on fire safety and arson risks, such as warning against non-professional use of torches for pipe heating (CT Insider) and commenting on arson in evacuation zones (Fox News CA). He also led the funeral Mass for fallen firefighter Ricardo Torres as an ordained deacon of the Archdiocese of Hartford and a licensed Connecticut attorney.
