Wayne Sandford serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Fire Science and Emergency Management Department at the University of New Haven's Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.

Professor Sandford brings extensive practical experience to his academic role, with expertise spanning emergency management systems, fire science principles, and public safety administration. His teaching focuses on both theoretical frameworks and practical applications in disaster response and prevention.
As a former Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for Connecticut and former Fire Chief of the East Haven Fire Department, Sandford provides students with real-world insights into crisis management. He has been featured in multiple media outlets including LiveNOW from Fox, PEW Trusts, Zip06, The Daily Orange, and Firehouse Magazine, where he discusses current issues in emergency management, fire safety technology, and disaster preparedness.
Professor Sandford is also an ordained deacon for the Roman Catholic Church, bringing a unique perspective on community service and crisis response to his professional work.
He teaches courses including Principles of Emergency Management, Holistic Disaster Recovery, Emergency Scene Operations, Fire Hydraulics, Fire Prevention, Building Construction, and Issues in Public Safety Professional Responsibility and Management.
