Professor Martin Munro is the Winthrop-King Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Florida State University, where he also directs the Winthrop-King Institute for Contemporary French and Francophone Studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen and specializes in Francophone Caribbean literature and culture, with particular focus on Négritude, Créolité, postcolonial theory, and sound studies. His research explores themes like Haitian literature, writing disaster, and Caribbean cultural identity.
His academic contributions span monographs, translations, and edited volumes including The Music of the Future (2024), Tropical Apocalypse (2015), and Different Drummers (2010). He has received prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship (2024–25) and the French Voices Translation Award (2017). His courses at FSU include Francophone Cinema, Vodou, Race, and Revolution in Haiti, and Exile in Francophone Cultures.
