Dr. Martin Mkandawire is a Professor of Chemistry at Cape Breton University (CBU) within the School of Science and Technology. He chairs the CBU Senate and previously held the Industrial Research Chair in Mine Water Management. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and three authored books (including a poetry anthology), he combines theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches in mine water remediation, biophotonics, and bio-inspired technologies.
- Education: Habilitation holder with venia legendi; Ph.D. in Chemistry
His research focuses on cost-effective mine water management strategies, photochemistry of bio-compounds, and improving energy conversion efficiency through bio-inspired designs in organic solar cells. He has served on international expert panels and editorial boards for scientific journals.
