Renan Ulrich Goetz

Renan Ulrich Goetz is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Girona, Spain, where he has been a faculty member since 1997. He previously served as Head of the Department of Economics from 2008 to 2011 and remains an active researcher and educator.

His academic foundation includes:

• Undergraduate studies in Economics and Agricultural Economics at Hamburg and Kiel Universities (Germany)
• Ph.D. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich)
• Two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley
• Habilitation (venia legendi) in Environmental and Resource Economics from ETH Zurich

Professor Goetz's research integrates environmental economics, agricultural economics, and advanced mathematical modeling to address critical natural resource challenges. His work emphasizes dynamic systems analysis for sustainable management of forests, water resources, and land-use patterns, employing optimal control theory to model intertemporal resource allocation. This interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical economic frameworks with practical environmental policy applications.

He currently serves as co-editor of Springer's "Natural Resource Management and Policy" book series and holds the presidency of the Spanish-Portuguese Association of Natural and Environmental Resource Economics (AERNA) since September 2024. His research activities are conducted within the University of Girona's Economic Analysis Research Group, where he contributes to collaborative projects on resource economics.
