Dr. Martin Lovelace is affiliated with the Department of Folklore at Memorial University of Newfoundland, within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research focuses on oral literature, particularly folktales and ballads, emphasizing their relationship with social realities. He has conducted extensive work in Atlantic Canada, leveraging its rich folklore archives and tradition-bearers.
His research includes a SSHRC-funded project, Fairy Tale Cultures and Media Today, led by Dr. Pauline Greenhill (University of Winnipeg), collaborating with international scholars like Jack Zipes and Cristina Bacchilega. His publications span analyses of ballad performance, community-based folklore studies, and historical field diaries.
Dr. Lovelace’s work often bridges cultural studies and media analysis, exploring how folk traditions intersect with modern contexts.
