Martin Levins is a Lecturer in Digital Technology at the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education, University of New England (UNE), Australia. He is actively engaged in teacher education, curriculum development, and professional learning initiatives at both the national and regional levels.
His research and professional interests focus on digital technologies in education, including curriculum design, evidence-based teaching practices, and the integration of ICT across K–12 subjects. He has extensive experience in teaching and designing learning programs in Digital Technologies, Computing, Science, Mathematics, and Design & Technology for students from K–12, as well as VET programs in senior secondary education.
Martin has made significant contributions to national education policy and implementation, having worked with the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to support over 160 disadvantaged schools in deploying the Digital Technologies curriculum. He has also contributed to the Australian Curriculum Review by developing classroom-based elaborations for content descriptors.
His notable awards include the 2023 Institute for Educational Leadership Outstanding Professional Service Award, the 2023 Armidale Citizen of the Year, the 2015 'Making IT Happen' award from ISTE, the 2008 JA Sutherland Memorial Award, and recognition as an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2002.
He is actively involved in professional communities, serving as Secretary of ICTENSW, a member of the Australian Computing Society Education Board, and an executive member of the ATTEN network. His consultancy interests include curriculum design, whole-school leadership, and student-focused pedagogy.
