Martin John Millett is a Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Cambridge, currently holding the Laurence Professorship since 2001. He previously held academic positions at the University of Southampton (1999–2001) and the University of Durham (1981–2098). His research focuses on the archaeology of Roman imperialism, particularly the impact on indigenous societies, Roman colonization in the Liri Valley, and the development of archaeological survey methodologies. He has led major projects such as the Underneath the Surface of Roman Republican Towns (AHRC-funded) and the Aldborough Rome Town Project.

His recent publications highlight the use of geophysical survey techniques in Roman urban studies, funerary practices in the Roman Empire, and the integration of non-invasive methodologies with traditional excavation.
