Martin Holt is a Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Sunderland, serving as Deputy Lead on the two-year part-time PGCE and Year 1 Lead of the part-time PGCE. He teaches across programs including BA Primary Education, BA Primary Education (SEND), and QTS. His research focuses on integrating ICT and Virtual Reality (VR) into pedagogy, remote learning effectiveness, and mentoring trainee teachers. He pioneered the Twin Tutoring Scheme during the pandemic and led initiatives to implement Avantis VR Headsets in partnership schools.
He holds a master's degree in ICT's role in education and has conducted action research on remote learning platforms. Awards include the VCTA for innovative mathematics teaching via remote methods. Beyond academia, he is an ambassador for CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) and actively promotes physical education through initiatives like establishing a primary school fitness gym.
His professional interests span educational leadership, curriculum design, and the strategic use of technology in teacher training. He is also a qualified swimming teacher and FA football coach, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in education.
