Emma Little is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and EYFS Lead at the University of Sunderland, part of the Faculty of Education and Society. She joined in 2020 as a Lecturer, advancing to Senior Lecturer in 2023. Her roles include leading the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for primary programs, coordinating Year 2 of the BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS, and teaching modules like Curriculum Studies and School Experience. Prior experience includes FE college teaching, primary school teaching (since 2001), and work in international education. She is a Mental Health First Aider and Wellbeing Champion for the Faculty.
Research interests focus on Early Years curricula, international approaches to early education, and transitions between early years and formal schooling. She holds a MA in Education thesis on 'School Readiness and Transitions in Early Years'. Community involvement includes executive roles in Scouting and voluntary mentoring.
Awards include a Higher Education Academy Fellowship. Teaching responsibilities span undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in primary education, including SEND and PGCE pathways.
