Martin Gumiela is a PhD Candidate at the University of Vienna's Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET), Scientific Coordinator of the Research platform 'Transformations and Eastern Europe', and an external lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. His roles include Research Associate in the bilateral project 'A Breach in the System: The 'Polonia Firms' 1976-1994' (FWF/NCN) and academic coordination across multiple institutions.
Education: Studied History and German Philology at the University of Vienna through the Secondary School Teacher Accreditation Programme. Current research focuses on Austrian Polonia firms in late state socialist Poland, exploring diaspora entrepreneurship and small business dynamics under state socialism. Core research interests include Cold War Eastern Europe, transformation studies, and the socio-political history of emotions.
