Martin Gargiulo is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and the Shell Chaired Professor of Human Resources and Organisational Development at INSEAD. His research focuses on social networks, organizational theory, and intra/inter-organizational cooperation, with applications in sectors like banking, energy, and pharmaceuticals. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology from Uruguay’s national university.
His teaching includes network analysis, leadership, and organizational change, with an emphasis on informal networks and managing high-potential executives. He directs INSEAD’s High Impact Leadership Programme and has designed executive education for multinational firms.
Research highlights: (1) Network transition from closed to open structures in creative careers (2022 article on K-pop songwriters), (2) Homophily’s impact on performance (2018), and (3) Coordination disruptions in product development (2016). His work appears in top journals like American Journal of Sociology and Organization Science.
Scientific awards include recognition for his 2022 Administrative Science Quarterly article. He serves on editorial boards of Administrative Science Quarterly and Strategic Organization, and previously held leadership roles at INSEAD, including Associate Dean for Executive Education in Asia-Pacific (2009–2011).
