Prof. Dr. Martin Fuchs holds the Professorship for Indian Religious History at the Max-Weber-Kolleg (part of the University of Erfurt). He leads subproject B01 of the SFB 294 'Structure Change of Property' analyzing urban land ownership in India and Germany, and co-manages the M.S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre of Advanced Studies subproject 'Normative Conflicts and Transformation'. His research focuses on Cultural and Social Theory, with specializations in South Asian Anthropology, Religious Movements, and Dalit Studies.
His recent publications explore themes like religious individualization, urban anthropology, and Max Weber's comparative sociology. He contributes to debates on social justice and human rights through the lens of Indian sociocultural contexts. Currently, he is a core group member of the Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe 'Religion and Urbanity: Reciprocal Formations'.
