Martin Dufva is an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Denmark's Department of Health Technology, where he leads research in microfluidics, cell culture technologies, and biosensor development. His group focuses on creating advanced in vitro models including organ-on-chip systems for stem cell research and disease modeling.
His education includes a Master's in Molecular Biology and PhD in Clinical Chemistry from Göteborg University. Dr. Dufva has supervised 26 PhD students and over 30 Master's students, demonstrating significant mentorship in biomedical engineering.
Research focuses on developing microfluidic platforms for high-throughput biological screening, DNA microarray technology, and creating physiologically relevant tissue models. Recent work emphasizes perfused 3D culture systems that mimic in vivo conditions for studying cellular responses.
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on microphysiological systems development, with recent advances in tumor spheroid models, nanodiamond-based therapeutics, and quantitative evaluations of organ-on-chip efficacy compared to traditional cultures.
Leadership & Grants:
- Coordinated EU FP7 project 'Nanobio4Trans'
- Managed Danish Research Council project FTP 09-070568
- Principal investigator on multiple PhD projects in cell culture technology
Leads the Fluidic Array System Technologies (FAST) research group developing solutions for molecular and cellular assays, with particular expertise in surface chemistry and biomolecule interactions.
