Dr. Martin Dodge is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Manchester's School of Environment, Education and Development. He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) and has previously worked at Cardiff University and the University of Nottingham. His research focuses on the socio-spatial implications of digital technologies, urban historical geography, cartography, and infrastructure studies. Dodge is known for curating the Atlas of Cyberspaces and co-authoring influential books like Mapping Cyberspace and Code/Space.
His work explores how software and code shape urban spaces, surveillance technologies, and the 'data shadows' of individuals. Dodge has also contributed to public exhibitions such as Mapping Manchester and Infra_MANC, highlighting the city's historical and infrastructural narratives. He won the AAG Meridian Book Award 2011 for Code/Space.
Recent research includes studies on Manchester’s urban history, Cold War infrastructure, and the Simons family’s impact on the city. Dodge supervises postgraduate students on cybergeography, software studies, and urban cartography.
