Dr. Martin Blaakman is a Professor of Accessibility of Law at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the Business, Finance & Law Knowledge Center. His work focuses on broadening legal frameworks through social and democratic perspectives, addressing issues like justice, equality, and civic engagement with the legal system. He collaborates extensively with regional organizations including the Rotterdam Ombudsman, local municipalities, and civil society groups.
- Education: PhD in Philosophy from Utrecht University (dissertation: Discrimination and Unconscious Bias)
- Experience: Former roles at the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service, National Ombudsman, and Utrecht University lecturer
His research examines systemic barriers to legal access, such as financial insecurity among Ukrainian displaced workers and perceptions of injustice. He co-founded the Class-Conscious Academics Network to support first-generation university students.
Collaboration priorities include integrating research with education and practice, involving students and lecturers in projects addressing real-world legal challenges.
