Martin Appold is Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Missouri, specializing in hydrogeology and geochemistry. His research combines numerical modeling with fluid inclusion analysis to study sediment-hosted base metal deposits and CO₂ sequestration. Appold has secured over $1M in external funding including NSF and DOE grants, and leads the university's hydrogeology curriculum.
His work examines fluid behavior in sedimentary basins, developing predictive models for mineral deposit formation and carbon storage. Current projects include geochemical analysis of the Farnsworth hydrocarbon unit for CO₂ sequestration and studying Mississippi Valley-type mineralization patterns.
Awards:
- NSF Presidential Early Career Award (2001)
- Julian Boldy Award in Mineral Deposits Research (2000)
Appold teaches groundwater hydrology, geochemical modeling, and economic geology, and has supervised 14 graduate students. He serves as associate editor for Hydrogeology Journal and organizes international conferences on fluid inclusions and ore deposits.
