Martha Bhattacharya, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Arizona, and affiliated faculty at the BIO5 Institute and Health Sciences Design. Her research focuses on molecular pathways in axon degeneration, with applications to neurodegenerative diseases like dementia, peripheral neuropathy, and Parkinson’s disease.
- Education: BA in Biochemistry (Harvard University), PhD in Cell Biology (University of California, San Francisco), Postdoctoral Training (Washington University in St. Louis)
She served as Faculty Director for Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) at the University of Arizona from 2022 to 2024, leading initiatives in recruitment and research productivity. In 2021, she founded the Brain Communication Networks VIP team and taught the undergraduate course How to Build a Brain (NSCS 440).
