She completed her PhD in Law in January 2023 and earned her Law Degree from the Porto School of Law in 2006. Her academic career is closely tied to Universidade Católica Portuguesa where she has been actively involved in research and teaching.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Law (January 2023), Faculty of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa
- Degree in Law (2006), Porto School of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa
- Pós Graduação em Direito (June 2009), Faculty of Law
Marta Rosas specializes in Civil Law with particular focus on autonomy, succession, and protection of vulnerable adults. Her research examines how civil law frameworks can better protect individuals with diminished capacity while respecting their autonomy. She has published extensively on civil code provisions, particularly regarding articles 138-140 which deal with accompaniment regimes, judicial decisions, and objectives of these legal mechanisms. Her work bridges theoretical legal frameworks with practical applications in estate planning and protection of persons with disabilities.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on contemporary challenges in civil law, especially concerning new assets, succession planning, and legal protections for vulnerable populations. The trend shows increasing attention to autonomy-based solutions rather than traditional guardianship models, reflecting broader shifts in European civil law approaches to disability and vulnerability.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Distinção como melhor aluno finalista do Ensino Secundário (2001)
- Five consecutive Prémio de Mérito awards for academic excellence throughout her law degree (2003-2006)
Marta Rosas has been actively involved in doctoral supervision and examination, as evidenced by her role as main examiner in several thesis defenses related to post-mortem pacemaker harvesting, medically assisted death insurance implications, and patrimonial planning for vulnerable individuals. Her research activities are primarily conducted through the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law where she contributes to advancing civil law scholarship. She has also participated in numerous conferences and public engagements, including media appearances discussing planning for support systems.
Her research is organized through the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law (CEID-CRCFL), a major research initiative running from 2020-2025 that brings together legal scholars across multiple disciplines to address contemporary legal challenges including civil law, human rights, and artificial intelligence applications in legal contexts.
