Marta Padovan-Özdemir is an Associate Professor at Roskilde University's Department of People and Technology Organization, Ethics & Social Sustainability. Her work focuses on diversity, discrimination, and postcolonial dynamics in welfare systems. She leads the NordForsk-funded MaHoMe project examining migrant home-making across Denmark, Sweden, and the UK. Previously, she was Senior Associate Professor at VIA University College (2021–2022). Her research integrates historical-sociological analysis with ethnographic methods to challenge systemic biases in welfare practices.
Education: PhD in Educational Science from the University of Copenhagen (2013–2016), focusing on immigrant integration policies and Danish welfare nationalism. Current projects include a Routledge book on racism in refugee welfare work with Dr. Trine Øland, and a Danish Union-funded study on norm-critical daycare evaluations.
Research interests emphasize critical storytelling, decolonial methodologies, and socially just collaborations. She has contributed to 62 research outputs including encyclopedic entries and peer-reviewed chapters on topics like 'Brutal Care' and 'Postcolonial Complicity.' Her work aligns with UN SDGs related to education and reduced inequalities.
Grants include Danish Ministry of Education funding for critical thinking tools in education and Nordic funding for migration studies. She actively collaborates with Nordic institutions and participates in initiatives like PowPlay against workplace harassment. Her media engagements address discrimination in social policies and gender equality.
