معرفی
Marta Gallo is a fixed-term assistant professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, specializing in materials science and chemical engineering with expertise in aerogels, CO2 capture, and drug delivery systems. She leads research in silica-based porous materials and supercritical fluid technology within the Supercritical Fluids and Materials Chemistry (SMAC) group.
Dr. Gallo holds a Ph.D. in Material Science and is a biomedical engineer by training. She completed her doctoral and postdoctoral work in France (INSA, Lyon) and Germany (FAU University, Erlangen) before joining the Polytechnic University of Turin. Her educational background bridges biomedical engineering, materials science, and chemical engineering.
Her primary research focuses on the development of silica-based porous systems including aerogels and mesoporous materials for environmental and pharmaceutical applications. Key areas include CO2 capture using amine-functionalized systems, drug delivery mechanisms, ceramics for bone replacement, and polymeric membranes with controlled properties. Her work spans from material synthesis using supercritical fluids to performance evaluation through rigorous testing protocols.
Dr. Gallo's recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on sustainability in materials science, with particular attention to circular economy applications of aerogels, pharmaceutical processing techniques, and environmental remediation solutions. Her work consistently bridges fundamental materials science with practical applications in both healthcare and environmental sectors.
She has received notable recognition including:
- Optime Award from Industrial Union of Turin (2012)
- COMMUNICARE LA RICERCA ALLA CITTADINANZA certification (2025)
- Learning to Teach with Innovative Teaching Project (2024)
- Effective communication with businesses certification (2024)
- Learning to Teach certification (2024)
Dr. Gallo serves on program committees for major international conferences on aerogels and has secured research funding for projects related to sustainable materials development. She actively collaborates with industry partners through the Industrial Union of Turin and participates in knowledge transfer initiatives.
She conducts her research within the Nanoporous Materials Laboratory and Supercritical Fluid Laboratory at DISAT, where she applies advanced characterization techniques to develop next-generation materials for environmental and pharmaceutical applications.
