Barbara Onida

Barbara Onida is a Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT), Politecnico di Torino, and a member of the PolitoBIOMed Lab - Biomedical Engineering Lab. Her research focuses on adsorption, antimicrobial materials, drug delivery systems, mesoporous/nanoporous silicas, and zeolites within the CHEM-06/A - Chemical Foundations of Technologies sector.

• Teaching: Course Lecturer for Chemistry in Aerospace Engineering (2019-2025) and Course Collaborator in Materials/Nanomaterials Engineering programs

Her research groups (SMAC - Supercritical Fluid and Materials Chemistry) manage laboratories for Supercritical Fluids, Nanoporous Materials, and Vibrational Spectroscopy. She has led numerous competitive research projects including:

• MAC (Cementitious friction materials)
• Hierarchically Porous Materials (2010-2012)
• NANOSAFE (Nanoparticle safety, 2007-2010)
• CBRN-Haips (Protective materials, 2024-2029)

She holds multiple patents including aluminophosphate water splitting technology and submicrometric silica for dermatological applications, and supervises PhD students Umair Ashraf (Chemical Engineering, 2023-ongoing) and Paolo Pino (Chemical Engineering, 2019-2023).
