Marta Facchini is a Senior Researcher at the INVEST Research Flagship Centre, University of Turku, focusing on social inequality and its mechanisms across education, labor markets, and health. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Sciences Po (Centre for Research on Social Inequalities, CRIS) and the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED), and an M.A. in Sociology and Social Research from the University of Trento.
Her research examines how employment uncertainty impacts child development, educational disparities, and long-term social outcomes. She employs advanced causal inference methods and longitudinal data, particularly from the French Elfe birth cohort. Her work also evaluates public policies aimed at reducing inequality throughout the life course.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend in educational inequality, tracking systems, and policy evaluation using quasi-experimental designs. Her work bridges sociology, demography, and public policy, with a comparative and empirical focus on France and Italy.
She has taught courses in statistics, causal inference, and sociology at Sciences Po and École Normale Supérieure, including lectures and lab sessions in R, policy analysis, and social inequality. While no formal advising of students is mentioned, her collaborative research includes ongoing projects with scholars like Lidia Panico and Carlo Barone.
She is actively engaged in research with no mention of awards, but her publications appear in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Higher Education, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, and Longitudinal and Life Course Studies.
